Reasons Insurance is not accepted at Brighter Days Counseling
Using your insurance benefits for counseling can be as harmful to your future insurability as filing bankruptcy is to your credit score. For that and many other reasons, Brighter Days Counseling is not on any insurance panels. Some of these reasons are addressed below.
When you use insurance benefits for counseling, a diagnosis is required, such as Major Depression, Anxiety Disorder, etc. These diagnostic labels often cause you to be rated “high risk” for life or health insurance in the future. If you ever have to apply for insurance as an individual, this could cost you your insurability or make your premiums extremely high. This can happen even if you had marriage or family counseling.
Insurance companies dictate care. They often tell therapists what treatment to provide, how often it is to be provided and for how long. All of this is done despite having never met the client. We prefer to work with our clients and not for the insurance companies.
Insurance companies often share information with employers under the guise of helping manage medical benefit use.
An insurance company has the right to see your counseling case notes at any time. Once in the hands of the insurance company, you have no say in who and how many people will see your case notes containing intimate details about you and your life. These case notes will also become part of your permanent medical records.
In order to qualify for insurance use for counseling, most companies require that you be diagnosed with SMI (Severe Mental Illness). That code on your record may or may not reflect your actual condition. In other words, you have to be diagnosed “sick enough” to use benefits.
Cash and credit cards are accepted for payment.
Options for payment include:
Paying per session. Payment is due at the beginning of each counseling session.
Prepayment. Paying for treatment in its entirety at onset of treatment. If choosing this option, you will receive a 10% discount.
If you do not show up for your scheduled therapy appointment, and you have not notified us at least 24 hours in advance, you will be required to pay the full cost of the session.
